Todorov's theory of narrative
Todorov's Theory
In Todorov's theory there are five different structures to a film. This theory can be applied to most of all the linear narrativesBeginning
Equilibrium- The norms for the character's
Disruption- Something happens that disrupts the norm
Middle
Recognition- The characters have identified the problem and know that they need to solve it
Attempt to solve- The character's attempt to restore the equilibrium however they fail
Resolution- They repair the problem
End
New Equilibrium- There is a new equilibrium as they can't ever go back to how it was as so much as happened. So therefore there will be new norms for the character's
Example:
The Lion King
Equilibrium- Character's have been set in the pride lands with nothing for them to be concerned about and Mufasa has control over the Pride lands
Disruption- Mufasa dies and Scar has manipulated Simba into thinking it is his fault. Due to this Simba runs as he fears for the consequences
Recognition- Simba has realised the problems that Scar has caused due to his absence
Attempt to solve- Simba tries to fight Scar in order to gain back control over the Pride lands. However Simba is losing the fight
Resolution- The other lions help fight Scar and the hyenas with Simba. This resolves them into winning back the Pride lands.
New Equilibrium- Simba is now in control of the Pride lands but it won't be the same as Mufasa is no longer alive
Hello
Welcome to my blog
One of my favourite films is Love Actually, the perfect film for the season that leads up to Christmas. This film gives a story of eight different couples, showing their struggles of the frantic month which leads to one of the best days of the year. The film is full of a lot of humour and heart warming scenes, including some very emotional scenes.
Although Love Actually was released in the UK in 2003, it still hits the charts of the top 10 Christmas films, but aren't all the originals the best films to watch. When released, this film manage to earn over $248 million, with a budget of $40-45 million.
Love Actually has a variety of huge actors, including Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman, Rowan Atkinson, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth and Bill Nighy.
Bill Nighy played a big role in this movie, his character is comedic who has made a humourous comeback.
